28 security officials promoted.

President Hamid Karzai promoted 28 members of the Afghan police, army and intelligence service at a ceremony held at the heavily-guarded Presidential Palace in Kabul on Saturday. Those who were promoted to higher positions included 11 defence ministry officials, five interior ministry officials and 12 National Directorate of Security (NDS) members. Chief of Army Staff Sher Muhammad Karimi was promoted from lieutenant general to general, Commander of Ground Forces Murad Ali Murad from major general to lieutenant general and 215th Military Corps Commander Syed Malook from brigadier general to major general. Promoted from the rank of colonel to brigadier general were Director of Executive Affairs at 215th Military Corps Muhammad Ali, Shirin Shah, commander of the 3rd Battalion of 215th Military Corps, Zmarai, commander of the 2nd Battalion of 203rd Military Corps, Muhammad Sadiq, commander of the 4th Battalion of 203rd Military Corps, Imam Nazar, commander of the 2nd Battalion of 201stMilitary Corps, and Ahmad Fazal Muhammad, commander of the 2nd Battalion of 209th Military Corps. The names of two other officials were not mentioned. In the Ministry of Interior (MoI), Wahidullah, commander of MoI Security Facility, was elevated from colonel to major general, Shah Wali Sapi, deputy head of Police Academy, from colonel to major general, Timor Shah from brigadier general to major general, Nawroz Khaliq from colonel to major general and Abdul Wasi from colonel to brigadier general. NDS officials Abdul Qayyum Katawazai and Noor Muhammad Waziri were promoted from brigadier general to major general and Hamiduddin Habibi, Muhammad Naeem, Muhammad Ismail, Hayatullah and Mirza Shah from colonel to brigadier general. However, three other promoted NDS officials were not named. Speaking on the occasion, Karzai told the gathering to get ready for taking charge of defending their country. "You should equip yourselves with military instruments, enhance your capabilities and work with determination for the defence of your homeland."
