25 units to auctioned at historic mill in NJ.

Twenty-five new loft-style condominiums constructed in Milltown, New Jersey, within a turn-of-the-century industrial mill listed on the State and National Historic Registers will be offered for sale at a public auction on April 26, it was announced by Sheldon Good & Company, who will conduct the auction on behalf of the seller.

Originally priced from $119,900 to $239,900, suggested opening bids will range from $30,000 to $50,000. Twelve residences will be sold "absolute," regardless of price, to the highest bidders. The one to three-bedroom residences are contained within The Mill, 40 Washington Avenue. The Mill's developer, Gordon D. Ash, is known throughout New Jersey as a respected authority on the adaptive re-use of historic structures.

Ash has restored several structures listed on the State and National Historic Registers including Highlawn Pavilion in Eagle Rock Reservation, West Orange and The Rogers Mill in Paterson.

Steven L. Good, president, Sheldon Good & Company, said, "For those who want their living environment to make a personal statement of adventure and creativity, The Mill must be considered as a paramount residence."

Protected under State and Federal statutes, The Mill's 19th century facade, with its Italianate style architecture and flawless craftsmanship, remains virtually unchanged. Inside, The Mill's residences have exposed brick walls, wood beams and columns, 12-foot ceilings, and insulated, oversized custom windows.

All the condominiums have individual climate control. The four-story building has an elevator and there are skylights in all third and fourth-story residences.

The auction will take place on Sunday, April 26, 1992, at 12 noon at the Garden Manor, 50 Route 35, Aberdeen, New Jersey. A certified or cashier's check for $3,000 to $5,000 will be required to bid.

The Mill will be open for inspection beginning April 4 on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon to 4 p.m.; on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; on Friday, April 24 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and on Auction Day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

To visit The Mill, take the New Jersey Turnpike, Exit 9, to Route 18 South, then one-quarter mile to Tices Lane which becomes Washington Avenue in Milltown. The Mill is on the left.
