 24-HOUR PERSONAL BANKING LAUNCHED
 AT HUNTINGTON NATIONAL BANK
 COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- To complement its Smart Phone services being launched later this year, The Huntington National Bank today implemented an unprecedented effort to provide personal banking service 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week to meet the demands of the growing convenience-driven market.
 Called "Huntington Direct," the 24-hour banking service enables customers to fulfill all of their banking needs by telephone. Customers can speak with a Huntington Direct Personal Banker whenever they want and wherever they are by calling the toll free number, 800- 533-5225. Personal Bankers can give answers to inquiries, sell deposit and credit products, and take loan applications over the phone.
 "With today's demanding lifestyles, many of our customers don't have the time or opportunity to go to a banking office during regular hours for service," said Ike Stage, executive vice president of Complementary Delivery Services. "These are customers who are demanding new levels of banking convenience. We are not aware of any other bank in the United States responding to these growing demands by offering 24-hour service by phone."
 Market research shows that 12 percent of today's banking customers never entered a banking office in 1990 and 16 percent find current banking methods inconvenient. In addition, 29 percent of customers used alternative delivery systems last year by using Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs), automatic transfers, mail and the telephone.
 "Huntington Direct provides customers with 24-hour access to many services, no waiting in lines, no driving, less paperwork and increased privacy," Stage said. "Our customers will be able to do everything they can in a banking office, except cash transactions."
 The Huntington expanded its Sales and Service department to implement Huntington Direct. Sales and Service previously provided customer service representatives who answered basic banking inquiries during regular work hours.
 "What will make the implementation of Huntington Direct run smoothly is that we already have the systems and technology in place that will allow our Huntington Direct Personal Bankers to provide full-service banking," Stage said. This technology includes the Personal Banker Automation system, which is currently being implemented in banking offices throughout Ohio. The innovative software program allows Personal Bankers to use their computers to establish customers' needs and recommend the ideal financial products and services to match those needs.
 Huntington Direct Personal Bankers will also serve as the primary marketing arm for The Huntington's new Smart Phone technology. Developed by AT&T, the Smart Phone redefines banking convenience by enabling customers to access a wide variety of financial information services such as bill payment, balance inquiries, transfers between accounts, transaction information, travel arrangements and catalog shopping. While using Smart Phone, customers are prompted by a touch sensitive computer screen which walks them through their banking transactions. If, at any time, the customer needs personal assistance he or she can simply press a button and be connected with one of the Huntington Direct Personal Bankers.
