24/7: CLUBS: One wish ...

Byline: EMMA JOHNSON

GOODBYE and good riddance -yes, we finally got rid of some of the most homo phobic legislation this year.

After years of to-ing and fro-ing between the Commons and the Lords, we said goodbye to Section 28 and 15 years of institutional homophobia and lack of protection for gay youngsters.

We also welcomed promises of same sex partnership rights and the disappearance of antiquated indecency laws.

Some challenges may yet remain, but perhaps the hardest hurdle is that of acceptance vs. tolerance, and we can look forward to a time when we won't have to bang on about rights, or go to separate clubs, because no-one will give a damn who or what you are.

That's what wishes are for....
