22 killed in Punjab road accidents.
DERA GHAZI KHAN/JAMPUR -- At least 22 people including women and children were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in different areas of Punjab on Wednesday.According to police, a Kot Mithan-bound passenger bus coming from Dera Ghazi Khan overturned at Indus Highway after hitting a car and rickshaw near Hameedwala area of Jampur, district Rajanpur due to failure of brakes while reversing the vehicle.
12 people including women and children were killed in the accident and more than two dozen others sustained wounds.
The injured were shifted to local hospital by rescue personnel in assistance with local people for medical aid. According to hospital sources, condition of some wounded persons was serious and it was feared that the death toll may rise further.
Rescue sources said that the second accident took place near Sakhi Sarwar area of Dera Ghazi Khan when a bus coming from Faisalabad with devotees on board over turned due to reckless driving.
As a result of accident two devotees were killed on the spot while 13 others sustained wounds.
The rescue teams rushed to the scene of the accident and shifted the injured to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for treatment where eight more succumbed to their wounds raising death toll to 10.
Three injured people with serious wounds were later referred to Nishtar Hospital.
