In-city Service Helps Companies Stay Connected At Lowest Cost in

Industry Using State-of-the-Art Octave Communications' Conferencing

BT Conferencing Inc., a division of British Telecommunications, plc, one of the world's leading telecommunications' companies, today introduced an innovative, local area conference call service that lowers the cost of conference calling. Called 212 Conferencing, the services enables businesses within the New York City 212/646 area codes to conference call with others in those area codes for a low, 10-cents per minute fee. The service gives users access to sophisticated conferencing features normally available through more expensive 800 number conference services.

212 Conferencing is being rolled out in Manhattan through a series of print ads, phone kiosks, and outdoor building graphics. The service, based on technology from Octave Communications, is aimed at companies doing business in New York City or those who have geographically dispersed offices throughout the 212/646 area codes. 212 Conferencing enables companies, who might otherwise arrange cross town, face-to-face meetings throughout the city, to quickly convene phone conferences within the 212/646 area codes at local phone call rates of 10-cents per minute - half the conventional rate of 20-cents per minute most companies pay using 800 conference toll services. Eventually BT Conferencing plans to roll out the service throughout major metropolitan areas in United States.

"BT Conferencing has long been a leader in providing global partners with innovative remote meeting solutions," said Bob Moore, president and CEO BT Conferencing. "Because of our unique and proprietary technology platform, we have been able to provide a solution that the market has been demanding: local conferencing at extremely reasonable pricing."

212 Conferencing Technology

With 212 Conferencing users each get a conference calling card with phone number and passcode. The system makes a virtual conference room available to each user 24-hours a day and can connect up to 40 people within the 212/646 area code. The reservationless system is easy to set up and all a user needs is a touch-tone phone. Everyone dials a local 212/646 number and uses a passcode to enter the conference. Help is available 24 hours a day if an operator is needed.

The roll out of the 212 offering combines the reservationless technology offerings from Octave Communications, a New Hampshire based company that develops next-generation audio conferencing infrastructure and instant group conversation technology. The company is working with BT Conferencing to provide end-user customers with easy-to-use and deploy conferencing solutions that enhances the carrier's role as a strategic business partner, resulting in competitive differentiation, customer loyalty and new revenue opportunities.

"By using Octave technology as the foundation of 212 Conferencing, BT Conferencing is redefining the traditional approach to marketing conference services and fulfilling an unmet need," said Octave Chairman and Co-founder, Rob Scott. "With 212 Conferencing users in New York are getting access to the sophisticated features of a worldclass solution, while saving money and enhancing employee productivity. It is a win, win for everyone."
