21 people die in bus accident in Philippines.

MANILA, Oct. 26 Kyodo

At least 21 people were killed Thursday night when a bus rammed into three houses and a chapel in the southern Philippines, radio reports said Friday.

The bus was traveling along a highway in Buenavista in Agusan del Norte when its driver reportedly fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle. The bus then rammed into a chapel and three houses.

A prayer meeting for a dead relative was being held in one of the houses that was crushed by the bus, the reports said.

The reports said 16 people were killed on the spot and the others died while being treated in a hospital.

The driver, who was not seriously hurt, is now in police custody, facing possible charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
