2019 Healthcare Heroes announced and honored.

On Tuesday, March 12, Central Penn Parent honored its 2019 Healthcare Heroes at an awards breakfast and program in Camp Hill. The awards recognize excellence, promote innovation and honor the efforts of individuals and organizations making significant, positive impacts on the quality of healthcare in our region. It was the 13th annual Healthcare Heroes event.

Previous Healthcare Hero Award recipients Dr. Todd F. Barron, associate medical director at WellSpan Neurosciences, and and Dr. Lisa K. Torp, medical director at PinnacleHealth Breast Care Center, served as judges this year.

Winners will be profiled in Central Penn Parent's April/May issue.

The 2019 Central Penn Parent Healthcare Hero Award winners are:

Alexis M. Angle, CAN, student, Penn State Mont Alto, received the <em>Future of Healthcare Hero award.</em>

Elizabeth Bross, PA-C, cardiothoracic physician assistant at UPMC Pinnacle, received the <em>Allied Health Hero award.</em>

Alaina M. Loguidice, DVM, associate veterinarian at the Palmyra Animal Clinic, received the <em>Animal Care Hero award. </em>

Officer Darren C. Cotton with the Derry Township Police Department received the <em>First Responder Hero award.</em>

Joyce McCadney, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Hamilton Health Center, received the <em>Health Professional Hero award</em>.

Amanda Yost, MSN, CRNP, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at WellSpan Philhaven, received the <em>Mental Health Caregiver of the Year award</em>.

Kristie Barkley, RN, a Urology nurse at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, received the <em>Nurse of the Year award</em>.

Randal H. Medzoyan, MD, FAAP, a pediatrician and Medical Director of Pediatric Transition at UPMC Pinnacle, received the <em>Pediatric and Pediatric Specialties Hero award.</em>

Michael A. Fueyo, MD, Director, WellSpan Health Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders (CADD), received the<em> Physician of the Year award.</em>

Christine Ewing, Stroke Patient/Family consultant at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, received the <em>Senior Care Hero award.</em>

Aaron's Acres received the <em>Special Needs Advocate award.</em>

Paul A. LeVan, Jr., a volunteer with the American Red Cross of the Greater Pennsylvania Region, received the <em>Volunteer Hero award. </em>

Lisa M. Murphy, RN, MSN, RNC-OB, Clinical Practice Nurse Leader at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, received the <em>Women's Health and Wellness Hero award.</em>

Stuart Warren, MD, Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics, Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital (retired) and founder and former director of Cystic Fibrosis Center, Penn StateHealth Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, received the <em>Lifetime Achievement award</em>.

Allied Health Hero

Ms. Teri Hagen, Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital; Ms. Danielle Jeffries, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center; and Mr. John Zallnick, WellSpan Orthopedics.

Animal Care Hero

Dr. Michael Anzur, Valley Road Animal Hospital.

First Responders Hero

Trooper Benjamin Markosky, Pennsylvania State Police.

Health Professional Hero

Ms. Jessica Hogan, Geisinger Holy Spirit Primary Care, Mechanicsburg; Ms. Karen Meads, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center; Mr. Gil Pak, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center; and Ms. Kim Trutman, Penn State Bone & Joint Institute.

Mental Health Caregiver of the Year

Dr. Charles Goins, Hamilton Health Center; Dr. Joy Guziec, Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital; Dr. Crista Johnson, Psychological Health Associates.

Nurse of the Year

Ms. Denise Cutting, RN, Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital; Ms. Shannon Mason, RN, BSN, CTTS, UPMC Pinnacle; Ms. Laura Newlin, Masonic Village; Ms. Donna M. Putnam, RN, BSN, CTTS, Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital.

Pediatric and Pediatric Specialties Hero

Dr. Amy Burns, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center; Dr. Aleesha Pencia, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
