Gas load management policy approved by the Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet in July 2012 is being violated, well informed source told research analyst-PAGE. An official on condition of anonymity said there is widespread violation of the approved policy which states that domestic followed by commercial sector would be the top priority. Power sector was allocated second priority and general industrial, fertilizer and captive power plants were accorded third priority. The CNG sector was allocated second last priority followed by the cement sector. At present the industrial sector has replaced the domestic sector in terms of priority. Gas is being provided to industry to reap the benefits of GSP Plus status but it is a violation of the priority order as per the management plan which requires that gas be allocated to the industry and fertilizer sector for nine months a year.
