Updated exams reflect changing job skills for computer support workersOAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- CompTIA, the leading provider of vendor neutral skills certification for information technology (IT) professionals, announced today that the 2009 edition of its flagship certification CompTIA A+ is now available worldwide in a Spanish-language version.
The latest CompTIA A+ exams include updated content that reflects changing job requirements for tech support workers. The certification consists of two tests, CompTIA A+ Essentials and CompTIA A+ Practical Application.
"CompTIA A+ remains the best credential candidates can have to launch a career in IT," said Terry Erdle, senior vice president, skills certification, CompTIA. "This certification delivers a comprehensive measurement of the core skills and knowledge that are universal for any IT technician, regardless of job role or responsibility."
More than 700,000 individuals around the world are CompTIA A+ certified. Adoption of CompTIA A+ has experienced strong growth of better than 70 percent in Latin America from 2008 to 2009.
The CompTIA A+ Essentials exam measures necessary competencies for an entry-level IT professional with the equivalent knowledge of at 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. The exam covers the fundamentals of computer technology, operating systems, networking and security, as well as communication skills and professionalism.
The CompTIA A+ Practical Application exam focuses on scenarios in which troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolve problems, with more of a "hands-on" orientation.
Candidates must pass both exams to become CompTIA A+ certified. Objectives for both exams are available at http://www.comptia.org/certifications/testprep/examobjectives.aspx.
Other certifications such as CompTIA Network+, which measures competency in managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, installing and configuring basic network infrastructure; and CompTIA Security+, which validates skills in system security, network infrastructure, access control and organizational security, also are available in Spanish language versions.
