AMMUNITION -- 2006
Barnes' Maximum-Range X-Bullet features Barnes' copper Triple-Shock X-Bullet with a new Delrin tip and a tungsten core. The denser-than-lead tungsten core moves the MRX bullet's center of gravity rearward, producing optimum ballistic performance, penetration and accuracy. The streamlined Delrin tip provides a higher ballistic coefficient. It is available in 20-bullet packs.
Barnes' Spit-Fire T MZ muzzleloader bullet, with a high-ballistic coefficient, features a boattail design and 100-percent copper construction, along with a specially designed streamlined tip to enhance expansion. It retains its integrity at extreme velocities, while functioning reliably at impact speeds as low as 1,050 fps. It is available in .50-caliber (.451 diameter) 250- and 290-grain weights. Sold, with sabots, in 15- and 25-bullet packs.

Winchester launches a new brand in 2006. Supreme Elite products "possess all the benefits of the Supreme brand ... plus incorporate the most cutting edge technology." Supreme Elite ammunition has its own logo and distinctive packaging.
The first introduction of the new brand is the Supreme Elite XP3 Bullet. The XP3's design separates the front of the bullet from the rear lead core. A web of copper jacket material mechanically locks the bullet together. In addition, a bonded (soldered) rear lead core locks the lead to the jacket. The bonding allows the lead to stay with the jacket during impact, resulting in "nearly 100 percent weight retention and more energy deposited on target." The design yields a two-stage expansion at the front and in the body of the bullet.
The XP3 is topped off with a polymer tip to increase ballistic coefficient, produce consistent expansion of the hollow-point design and to prevent damage during loading and unloading. The XP3 also is coated with Winchester's proprietary Lubalox coating to reduce barrel fouling.
The XP3 will be available in: .30-06, .300 WSM, .300 Win. Mag. (all in 150- and 180-gr.), plus .308 Win. (150-gr.), 7mm Rem. Mag. (160-gr.), 7mm WSM (160-gr.), .270 Win. (150-gr.) and .270 WSM (150-gr.).

Federal introduces the first centerfire rifle cartridge to bear the company's name. It provides more muzzle energy than a .30-06 Springfield and equals that of a 7mm Rem. Mag. It is available in three Premium offerings: Nosler AccuBond, Partition and the Barnes Triple-Shock X-Bullet.
