2001 Red Nose Day: Well worth the weight.

FORGET the diet, ditch the scales and pile on the pounds for Comic Relief. Some of Britain's leading brand names have created a range of products with a percentage of the profits going to Comic Relief.


FOR chocoholics, the new Delia's Chocolate Collection cookbook (see Page 7), written exclusively for Red Nose Day 2001, will really whet the appetite.

The book will accompany a series of five programmes presented by Delia. Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders will be lending a hand in the kitchen alongside Michael Greco, Greg Wise, Nigel Havers, Jamie Oliver and Audley Harrison.

The series will be shown on BBC1 in the run up to Red Nose Day and the book will be available at Sainsbury's and other major bookstores for pounds 1 with 100 per cent going to Comic Relief. Her 1997 collection raised a whopping pounds 1.2million.


A HOT offering from The New Covent Garden Soup Company which has created the delicious Squashed Tomato & Basil Soup for Red Nose Day. Twenty per cent of all sales go straight to Comic Relief.


THE washing machine makers have guaranteed to donate pounds 220,000 from sales of selected models between Feb 12 and March 18.


VIRGIN Cola is offering some thirst relief with a goal of raising pounds 100,000.


GET your hooters and donate while you shop at the supermarket chain. The Whoopee Nose, the new red nose for 2001, the more refined Clothes Nose and the Big Sticky Nose guaranteed to jazz up any car, will all be sold exclusively at Sainsbury's stores.

The aisles will be full of Comic Relief products with a donation included in the price. Customers will also be able to donate on-line by when they purchase official Comic Relief merchandise at


SPECIAL tubs of Flora margarine are now on supermarket shelves. Comic Relief hopes they will raise around pounds 250,000 from sales.


SALES of special Red Nose Persil packs are expected to contribute pounds 300,000 to this year's total. People can say Pants To Poverty by washing their own smalls in Persil.


BT, who provide the special fund-raising phone lines, have also launched a limited-edition Comic Relief fascia for their new range of cordless phones. It is supplied free with any BT On-Air phone during February and March and for each phone sold, BT donate pounds 1 to the fund.
