20-1 Park the Festival pick.
RAYNES PARK has only had a handful of races, but she has already given the impression of being a more than useful addition to Martin Burt's team and rates the stand-out wager as the Ladbrokes Summer Festival kicks off at Monmore today.
Last week saw the heats of the Summer Classic and the card at the Wolverhampton venue is spiced by the semi-finals of that event, plus the heats of 480m events for dogs and bitches, as well as a 416m competiton.
Raynes Park has been chalked up at a whopping 20-1 with Skybet for the Festival Bitches. Admittedly well-beaten in a graded race last week, she had previously won a decent open over course and distance..
On that occasion she trapped in front and was never challenged as she came home over four lengths clear of Parkwest Glider, recording a fair enough 28.41sec.
She takes on the fancied Little Jig in the first of the competition's three heats.
Perfectly drawn next to the rails, she is strongly fancied to get first run on the favourite and can score in all-the-way fashion.
Betfred make a welcome return to the Pricewise tables today and it's to Fred Done's company that we look for our next wager.
The 16-1 being offered by the Warrington firm and Paddy Power about Swift Rooster for the Dogs' competition is very tempting and well worth taking.
The 416m competition is not one that makes massive appeal as the short run to the corner places a huge emphasis on trapping ability ahead of pace and agility.
Micks Ginger, who showed bundles of early pace at Shelbourne Park, has recently joined the in-form Chris Allsopp team and is an interesting recruit.
Considering how short the run to the bend is for these 416m races, one could be forgiven for believing a draw in trap one would be a significant advantage..
However, that is not necessarily the case because if you miss the break, you will be squeezed out no matter where you are drawn.
That said, the one-box is as good as any and, given how well Micks Ginger has gone in trials, he is certainly one to consider.
His task in the first of the three heats is anything but easy, for backers wouldn't want to see sprinter Praematurus trapping in front of him. Richard Joyce's dog ran well enough in the Golden Sprint and Scurry to suggest he is up to winning an event like this.
