2 new teams will join RC44 fleet in Slovenia.

Byline: Staff Report

Dubai: Two new teams will join the RC 44 fleet in Slovenia at the end of the month for the Bank Sarasin RC 44 Portoroz Cup.

Team Katusha from Russia and Team Blue Grove Miss Slovenia from Slovenia will be the latest entries for the RC44 Championship Tour that continues in Slovenia later this month.

The addition of these two new boats brings the total number of entries to 11.

Team Katusha joins the Championship Tour with ambition, having hired former America's Cup champion Paul Cayard as its skipper. Cayard already competed with the RC 44 Class in Lugano in 2008 as well as in the Austria Cup last June.

Team Blue Grove Miss Slovenia was one of the first teams to join the Championship Tour back in 2006, under the name Ekipa 44. The team that will sail in the Portoroz Cup 2009 is very similar to the initial one; it is mainly made up of Olympic and dinghy sailors, with Gasper Vincec at the helm for the match race and Michael Reardon steering the fleet series. The team finished third of their last regatta, in Trieste in 2007, proving the depth of their talent.

The Bank Sarasin RC 44 Portoroz Cup will begin on September 28 with the practice Race and media day.

Forum gets new event

Following the outstanding success of last year's inaugural World Yacht Racing Forum which attracted over 300 delegates from 37 countries, the second edition of the Forum will return to Monaco from December 9-10 This year, a new event has also been added to the schedule - the Yacht Racing Design and Technology Symposium - which will run parallel to the Forum. The Symposium will include presentations and panel discussions from experts in the field of yacht racing design and technology, including the latest developments in performance hull and composite design, hydrodynamics, coatings, rigging, sail making and much more.
