2 MEN POSE AS OFFICERS, ROB FAMILY.

Byline: Sherry Joe Crosby Daily News Staff Writer

Two gunmen posing as police officers tied up and robbed a couple as their infant daughter slept nearby, the victims said Friday.

Mike Stopol, a medical equipment salesman, was working in his garage office in the 7800 block of McLaren Avenue when the two men scaled the backyard fence at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, said Laurie Stopol.

``He didn't even hear them coming,'' Stopol said of her husband who was working on his laptop computer and was listening to the television.

The dark-clothed robbers had the word ``LAPD'' emblazoned on their baseball caps and were armed with handguns, said Laurie Stopol, who was awakened by the robbers.

The intruders forced Mike Stopol to lie prone and bound his hands behind his back with plastic zip ties, said Detective Ken DeBie of the West Valley police station.

Frightened for his wife and 16-month-old daughter, Sarah, Mike Stopol pleaded with the men to leave his loved ones alone.

``He kept saying: `I have a daughter and wife in the house,' '' Laurie Stopol said. `` `Please don't hurt them.' ''

They took about $1,500 in cash along with about $60 from Mike Stopol's wallet and the laptop computer, Laurie Stopol said.

Sarah slept through the entire ordeal, her mother said.

Police describe the first suspect as a light-skinned African-American man in his early to mid-20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds.

The second suspect is described as a white man in his mid-20s to early 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 180 to 200 pounds. He has wavy, sandy-brownish hair that is cropped close around the ears, the couple said.
