1st phase of anti- dengue drive to be started during current month.
In charge Dengue Control and Surveillance Cell Islamabad, Dr Muhammad Najeeb Durrani said that district health department has further improved the disease surveillance as well as response system and specifically targeting those areas where the disease had struck last year, thereby strengthening early warning, lab diagnosis, timely epidemiological response and capacity building.
Dr Najeeb Durrani said that vector control measures have been made more effective through elimination of breeding sites. He said that more focus would be on the efforts to control the disease through awareness drive and social mobilization for changing habits of the community.
He said that technically qualified staff is monitoring the trend of the disease and analyzing data for taking prompt interventions.
He said that vector control measures are being launched during this month as part of first phase of drive during which involved vector sites would be identified in the high risk areas and larvae breeding sites would be eliminated.
DHO Islamabad, Assistant Commissioners and Magistrates would monitor the progress of campaign in the field. Lady Health Workers and sanitary inspectors have been involved in this campaign.
He said that swift garbage clearing measures have been taken in the high risk areas and effective solid waste disposal system has been put in place in each union council for which directions have been issued to the officials of Local Government and Rural Development and union councils.
He said the Fisheries department would use larvae eating fish in the water ponds and fumigation and residual spray will be also made in the high risk areas.
Public awareness campaign about preventive measures against dengue is also being started during this month in each union council and pamphlets would be distributed and banners would be affixed at public places, he added.
Tyre shops owners have been directed to keep the tyres properly covered and inside their shops.
