1993-MODEL TRACER LAUNCHED EARLY WITH NEW LOOK, OPTION DISCOUNTS
DEARBORN, Mich., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The 1993 Mercury Tracer starts the model year early with a fresh new look and marketing approach.
"World-class quality and fun-to-drive road manners have become the hallmark of Tracer," said Lee R. Miskowski, Ford vice president and Lincoln-Mercury Division general manager. "New interior features and outstanding option package discounts will be added to that winning combination when the 1993-model Tracer debuts on May 21."
For the 1993 model year, both Tracer sedan and Tracer wagon will have the same simulated light bar grille found standard on present Tracer LTS models. All Tracer models receive new wheelcovers for 1993, and the Tracer LTS will have an all-new spoiler with integral high-mount stop lamp.
Also new for 1993 will be new seat and door trim fabrics, as well as six new exterior colors and two new interior colors.
For the past five months, Lincoln-Mercury Division has been test- marketing an option package with a discount equivalent to free air conditioning and automatic transaxle -- a $1,491 retail savings.
A similar Tracer package, equipped with a fun-to-drive manual transaxle, has been tested with a retail discount of up to $943. Because of the success of the test program, both packages will be made available nationwide for 1993 models.
"Even though the Tracer has been very successful, in today's competitive market you have to improve continuously," said Miskowski. "We believe we've done that through exterior and interior product changes and by expanding the special value equipment program across the country."
On a sales-weighted basis, national prices for comparably equipped Tracers will be up by about $6. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price for the Tracer will be $10,155. The MSRP for the 1993 Tracer LTS -- $12,023 -- will remain unchanged from the 1992 model.
In about half the nation, where the special equipment package was not test-marketed, retail prices on Tracer models other than LTS will be reduced. Vehicles in present 1992-model test market areas will have modest increases.
