LANHAM, Md., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Safeway, Inc. (NYSE: SWY), announced that the 1993-1994 Safeway Register Tapes For Education is well underway. As of today, over 1,250 schools have signed up to take part in this excellent program. Students at enrolled schools have the opportunity to save Safeway receipts and redeem them for valuable equipment from the company's catalogue of nearly 3,000 items. The catalogue includes items from a wide variety of categories including Athletic, Band, Computers, Library, Software, Audio Visual Equipment, Theater, Science, Text Books and Early Learning. In addition to these categories, schools will have the opportunity to place special orders for any equipment not offered in the catalogue.
Last year's program allowed participating schools to acquire nearly $2 million in much-needed equipment that they might not have been able to afford otherwise.
Registration packets have already been mailed to area schools and PTA presidents. To help schools get off to a good start, Safeway is offering an "Early Registration $10,000 Bonus" to all schools enrolled by Oct. 31. In addition to this, Safeway will double the dollar value of all receipts collected from Aug. 22 through Oct. 31.
"We believe we have designed a program to specifically address the budget restraints under which schools must operate today. The expanded selection of equipment available through our program will enable science, band and athletic programs to continue to be offered to students," said Bill McDown, senior vice president of Safeway's Eastern Division.
Any school with a kindergarten or any of the grades from 1 through 12 is eligible to participate.
"There's not a moment to waste," said McDown. "Schools should enroll now to receive their early enrollment bonus and begin immediately to collect tapes to take to advantage of Safeway's offer to double the value of tapes collected through Oct. 31."
Safeway is making it easier than ever for everyone to collect tapes and help kids this year. Magnetic tape collection clips have been sent to each of the stores and, while supplies last, customers can stick these on their refrigerators to hold their receipts.
Safeway is proud to offer this Tapes For Education campaign and to give the public an opportunity to "Save Now For Your Kids' Education."
