1993 HISPANIC DESIGNERS MODEL SEARCH

DALLAS, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Hispanic Designers, Inc.(HDI), and JCPenney are sponsoring the fifth annual National Hispanic Designers Model Search. Registration for the 1993 competition begins May 1, at 17 participating JCPenney locations.
Beginning May 1, men and women of Hispanic descent, ages 16 to 22, who are not professional models, are invited to register for this event at selected JCPenney stores in the following locations: Albuquerque, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, El Paso, Phoenix/Tucson, Sacramento/Fresno, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco/San Jose, Tampa, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. (If contestant is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must complete a consent form.)
This year, two national grand winners, a man and a woman, and two runners-up will be selected in Los Angeles on Sept. 10. Both national grand winners will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship from HDI and JCPenney. National runners-up will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
Other prizes for the national grand winners include a one-year scholarship to FIDM (The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Los Angeles), a $1,000 JCPenney wardrobe, a Juvenia gold watch, and Daniel de Fasson or Francesco Smalto fragrance packages. National runners-up will receive a $500 JCPenney wardrobe, and other prizes.
Twenty-five to 30 semifinalists will compete in a local JCPenney competition. Two district winners, a man and woman, will be chosen to represent each of the participating JCPenney markets at the national competition in Los Angeles. American Airlines, the official airline of the 1993 Hispanic Designers Model Search, will fly the district winners from home base to Los Angeles for the final competition.
There, on Sept. 10, district winners from each of the 17 JCPenney participating markets will compete to be named the 1993 Hispanic Designers Model Search grand winners. HDI and JCPenney will announce the two national grand winners and two runners-up at that event.
HDI is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to recognizing Hispanic talent and cultural contributions. The honorary board includes such acclaimed designers as Adolfo, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, and Paloma Picasso.
