1993 DODGE INTREPID AND JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE PROCLAIMED
WORLD'S 'BEST OF WHAT'S NEW' BY POPULAR SCIENCE MAGAZINE
NEW YORK, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The 1993 Dodge Intrepid and Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee today received top honors in Popular Science magazine's fifth annual Best of What's New awards. The Intrepid, featuring the new Chrysler signature cab-forward design, also was named the Grand Award winner in the Best of What's New car category.
For Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Best of What's New honor is the vehicle's second major award of the year. Last week, Motor Trend named the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V-8 as its 1993 Truck of the Year.
"Like many of our new customers, the Popular Science editors considered the very best of the new vehicles from around the world and picked Dodge Intrepid and Jeep Grand Cherokee as the winners," said Chrysler's Francois J. Castaing, vice president - Vehicle Engineering. "These awards reinforce the tremendous reception our new Jeep and new sedans have received from the public."
The Best of What's New is the annual selection of the year's 100 top products, technologies and scientific achievements from around the world as determined by the editors of Popular Science magazine. One nomination in each of the 10 categories is singled out for a Grand Award. These distinguished awards are the basis of a 24-page cover story in the December issue of Popular Science.
1993 DODGE INTREPID -- GRAND WINNER
According to the editors of Popular Science, "Chrysler revolutionizes the architecture of the automobile with the cab-forward design of its LH sedans." LH is the code name for Dodge Intrepid and its siblings, Chrysler Concorde and Eagle Vision.
"The Dodge Intrepid's raked profile and aggressive front-end styling best embodies the philosophy," said the editors. "By pushing the windshield forward and rear wheels back, cab-forward design provides 10-15 percent more space for passengers and cargo."
1993 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE -- BEST OF WHAT'S NEW
In naming Jeep Grand Cherokee to its Best of What's New list, the Popular Science editors called the vehicle the "Grand new Jeep," and praised the vehicle's world-class suspension system.
Chrysler engineers tuned Grand Cherokee's suspension for balanced performance and ride comfort on city streets and highways, while maintaining and even improving upon the traditional off-road acclaim of Jeep vehicles.
"Our engineers were painstakingly persistent in their efforts to assure the 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee would be in tune with today's customers who demand far more than basic versatility in a sport utility vehicle," said Castaing. "And in doing so, we believe we've created a vehicle that moves closer in ride, handling and comfort to some of the best sport sedans on the market today."
