1992 NEW YORK AUTO SHOW OPENS THIS WEEK: THE AUTO INDUSTRY IN THE NEWS
 The 1992 New York International Automobile Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (press/charity previews April 15-17; open to public April 18-26), the nation's largest automotive exhibition -- and New York's biggest annual event -- provides a gathering of automotive industry leaders, new models, futuristic concept cars, and safety and environmental exhibits.
 Recently, the business of automobiles -- specifically international competition, the economy, the environment and safety -- has been among the most discussed topics by business leaders, consumers, politicians and the media.
 The following are stories that could be reported on at the Auto Show:
 1. The economy, the auto industry and how it affects consumers.
 2. International competition/globalization of the auto industry.
 3. Safety technology and how it can save your life.
 4. Electric/alternative fuel vehicles -- what we will be driving to protect our environment.
 5. Gains in fuel efficiency -- the 100-mile-per-gallon car.
 6. What are the latest styling/design trends?
 7. Concept vehicles -- what they say about our future.
 8. The world's most fantastic, expensive super cars.
 9. What cars are hot sellers and good deals in a cold market?
 10. Traffic safety -- what the government, automakers and the private sector are doing to improve the safety of driving.
 11. New product trends -- luxury cars/sport utilities/minivans.
 12. New York and nation to adopt California emission standards.
 Show representatives Stuart Schorr and Michael Geylin will be on hand to give tours, arrange interviews, answer questions and facilitate stories.
 Show Schedule
 Wednesday, April 15 Press preview 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
 Thursday, April 16 Press preview 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
 Friday, April 17 Press preview 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
 Charity opening, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
 Saturday, April 18 Doors open to the public at 11:00 a.m.
 Show runs through Sunday, April 26.
 On April 15, 16 and 17, many automakers will hold press conferences to introduce their latest models, discuss relevant topics and answer questions, plus a keynote speech will be given by Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca on Wednesday, April 15, 8:30 a.m.
 Local celebrities will cut the ribbon for the April 17 charity preview, 11:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., for the Ronald McDonald House and Mayor Dinkins' Increase the Peace. The show opens to the general public on Saturday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m.
 Throughout the show, assistance will be available at BFGoodrich Tires Media Center (1-C04). Experts will be available for interviews and insight.
 In addition to the spectacular new car exhibits, many special educational displays will address environmental and safety issues such as air bags and electric vehicles.
 New product introductions at the 1992 show include: the 1993 Cadillac Brougham, making its world debut; the 1993 BMW 525i Sport Touring Wagon, making its North American debut; the 1993 IsoRivolta Grifo Grand Touring Coupe from Italy, making its world debut; the 250-MPH Vector Avtech WX3, making its North American debut; the flexible-fuel Subaru Rioma concept sports car, making its North American debut; Mitsubishi's Boyd Aluma Coupe, making its world debut; and Mazda's HR-X hydrogen-powered prototype and its portable suitcase car.
