1992 COLUMBIA SAVINGS COLORADO PAINT-A-THON NEEDS FUNDING, VOLUNTEERS
DENVER, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Funding and volunteers still are needed for the 1992 Columbia Savings Colorado Paint-a-thon, organizers say.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, 1992, more than 5,000 volunteers will paint the houses of 500 elderly and low-income families in Colorado. Volunteers will paint 100 homes in the Denver metro area as well as homes in 80 communities throughout Colorado.
Mark Gallegos, Paint-a-thon chairman, said, "The 1992 Columbia Savings Colorado Paint-a-thon is the largest one-day self-help project in Colorado. For the past 14 years, the Paint-a-thon has enabled elderly homeowners to keep their homes and maintain a safe living environment."
Because of the Paint-a-thon's past success, Gallegos said the demand for paint and volunteer assistance has increased, and the project faces a budget shortfall.
"Through the generous support of our sponsors (Columbia Savings, the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, the Colorado Division of Housing, El Pomar Foundation and Colorado Bank Shares), we have raised $53,000 to purchase paint and supplies and to manage this project.
"We need an additional $20,000 by early August, however, to paint 200 homes for which we have committed materials and volunteer resources," Gallegos said.
Individuals and organizations interested in contributing to the Columbia Savings Colorado Paint-a-thon should send their donations to: Columbia Savings Paint-a-thon Pals, c/o Mary Bernuth, Brothers Redevelopment Inc., 1111 Osage St., Suite 210, Denver, CO 80204, 303-892-8345.
