160 wild birds soar to freedom in Dubai.

Houbara, hawks, collared dove pigeon, sparrow (Passer), yellow-headed passer, and diamond pigeon were released on Sunday in Al Khawaneej area 2.

Dubai - As part of its celebrations to mark the World Migratory Bird Day which is held this year, under the theme '"Energy -- make it bird-friendly!", some 160 wild birds like houbara, hawks, collared dove pigeon, sparrow (Passer), yellow-headed passer, and diamond pigeon were released on Sunday in Al Khawaneej area 2.

Director-General of the Dubai Municipality Hussain Nasser Lootah and other officials from the municipality, along with bird amateurs attended the event. Lootah said: "The Dubai Municipality has always been keen to take part in such an event every year." This year, the municipality sought to grow the biological diversity of wild birds at Al Khawaneej neighbourhood that is being prepared and rehabilitated to be a natural wildlife sanctuary in the future so as to enrich and integrate the ecological system of Al Khawaneej locality. -- reporters@khaleejtimes.com
