16 Colorado Companies Make Deloitte & Touche 2000 Technology Fast 500; New Era of Networks, Inc. is Fastest-Growing Fast 500 Company in Colorado.

New Era of Networks, Inc. of Englewood, Colo., is the fastest-growing technology company in Colorado, according to the Sixth Annual Technology Fast 500 ranking announced today by Deloitte & Touche's Technology & Communications Group.

A ranking of the fastest-growing technology companies, the Fast 500 was expanded to include all of North America this year.

"Colorado is holding its own as a relatively new technology center in the U.S., with the showing of 16 companies on the Fast 500 based here, seven of which are repeat winners from last year," said Steve Berthe, Partner of the Denver office of Deloitte & Touche. "Their success is proof that Colorado is nurturing its technology community and that the infrastructure exists to perpetuate their incredibly fast growth."

New Era of Networks, Inc. is one of 16 Colorado-based companies to make this year's Fast 500. Ranked Number 47, New Era of Networks is in the top 10 percent of the Fast 500 companies. Ranking for the Fast 500 is based on percentage growth in revenue over a five-year period (1995-1999).

New Era of Networks, Inc., a software company, showed a 9,831 percent growth from $1,271,000 in 1995 to $126,224,000 in 1999. New Era of Networks ranked Number one on both the 2000 and 1999 regional 2000 Colorado Fast 50 lists.

The second-highest ranking company in Colorado is Number 57-ranked Requisite Technology, Inc., an Internet company based in Westminster, Colo. Requisite Technology showed a 7,833 percent increase from $92,000 in 1995 to $7,298,000 in 1999.

The third-highest ranked company in Colorado, Carrier Access Corporation, a communications company, has been on the Fast 500 list for three consecutive years. For 2000, it ranked Number 79. Carrier Access showed a 7,833 percent growth from $2,058,000 in 1995 to $108,815,000 in 1999. Carrier Access was Number 43 on the 1999 Fast 500 and Number 73 on the 1998 Fast 500.

Colorado Companies Repeat Winners on Fast 500 List

Three Colorado companies have remained on the Fast 500 list for three consecutive years, 1998-2000. They are Carrier Access Corporation, Qwest Communications International and ACT Teleconferencing.

Four additional Colorado companies have ranked on the Fast 500 list for two consecutive years, 1999-2000. They include New Era of Networks, RMI.NET, Nupremis, Inc., and Draco Systems, Inc.

Colorado Companies Grew an Average 3,076 Percent

Fast 500 companies in Colorado grew an average of 3,076 percent, compared with the national average of 3,956 percent. The 1999's Fast 500 average growth rate was 4,998 percent. Five-year growth percentages for the 2000 Fast 500 winners ranged from 593 to 71,257 percent. Combined, the top five Fast 500 winners' average growth rate was more than 59,000 percent.

Number One Fast 500 Winner Primus Telecommunications Grew at 71,257 Percent

Number One-ranked Primus Telecommunications Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRTL), a communications company based in McLean, Virginia, had a five-year revenue growth of 71,257 percent. Its revenues grew from $1,167,000 in 1995 to $832,739,000 in 1999. Primus offers Internet Service Provider (ISP) services, Web-hosting and Application Service Provider (ASP) services, content distribution and streaming media, and ATM+IP managed bandwidth via its own network.

Qualifying Criteria for the Fast 500

The Fast 500 list is compiled from three sources: winners of Deloitte & Touche's 22 regional North American Fast 50 programs, nominations submitted directly to the Fast 500, and public company database research. To qualify for the Fast 500, entrants must have had 1995 revenues of at least $50,000 USD or $75,000 CD for the United States and Canada, respectively.

Entrants are public or private companies headquartered in North America and must be a "technology company," specifically defined as a company that produces technology, manufactures a technology-related product, is technologically intensive, uses technology in problem-solving, or devotes a high percentage of effort to research and development of technology.
