Byline: Mark Smith Reporter

ANOTHER nurse has been suspended as part of an ongoing inquiry into the falsification of patient records at two South Wales hospitals, taking the total to 15.

The nurse, based at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, was temporarily removed from her post this week following alleged "blood glucometry record-keeping improprieties".

The 15 suspended nurses, based in the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board region, include three who have been charged by South Wales Police following allegations of neglect.

Lauro Bertulano, 44, Clare Cahill, 41 and Rebecca Jones, 29, who all come from the Bridgend area, were charged with wilful neglect last month and will appear in court on July 28.

But they have also now been charged with wilful neglect concerning another six patients.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "They have been charged with wilful neglect contrary to Section 44 Mental Capacity Act 2005 in connection with a further six patients.

"Police officers have contacted all of the patients or the families of those patients concerned to keep them fully informed of developments."

Fourteen members of staff embroiled in the matter were based at the Princess of Wales Hospital, with the other working at Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

A spokesman for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg UHB said: "The health board is carrying out audits and spot checks of blood glucometry record-keeping across all its hospitals.

"These continue and have been underway following the issues around some blood glucometry record-keeping, which emerged early in 2013.

"We continue to assist South Wales Police with their investigations."

David Wallace, Associate Director (Employment Relations) of the Royal College of Nursing in Wales, said: "We are aware of the issues of concern that have been raised relating to Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.

"We await the outcome of the pending charges. Poor patient care is always unacceptable. Patient care is paramount to the Royal College of Nursing and it is
