13,400 staff.

THE Department for Work and Pensions is a major employer in the North East with around 13,400 staff working across the region.

The majority of 5,000 people who work at Jobcentre Plus are employed in one of the 47 jobcentres through the region, with the rest working in call and benefit delivery offices.

A further 5,100 work at the Pension Service, including the Disability and Carers Agency, and 1,100 at the Child Support Agency (CSA).

The remainder work for departmental corporate services like human resources, estates, finance.

Around 2,000 staff are employed at the Longbenton civil service complex on Tyneside, mainly working for the CSA and the Pension Service.
