Lester still streaking

Jon Lester is 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA in his last 12 home starts, the longest such streak by a Boston left-hander since 1956. The Red Sox are 14-1 when he goes at least seven innings.

Lowrie double trouble

Jed Lowrie has at least one double and two RBIs in each of his last three games, the first Red Sox rookie to do that since Fred Lynn in 1975. Lowrie is batting .333 with 15 RBIs in his last 12 games, and has four doubles in his last three games.

How low can he go?

Jason Varitek went 0 for 3 last night and continues to slump. His batting average is down to .214, and he is 4 for 27 (.151) in his last eight games.

Twice as nice for Youk

Kevin Youkilis has homered twice in a game four times this season and five times in his career. Other AL players who have duplicated that feat this season are Carlos Quentin of the White Sox and the Indians' Grady Sizemore.

Three's company

Dustin Pedroia has had three or more hits in a game 16 times this season, matching Milwaukee's Ryan Braun for most in the majors. Pedroia and the Rangers' Ian Kinsler share the AL lead with 48 multi-hit games.

Pedroia's five hits Tuesday night matched his career best June 15, 2007 against the Giants, and were the most for a Sox player since Mike Lowell had five hits on July 5, 2007. The club record for a nine-inning game is six hits by Jimmy Piersall on June 10, 1953 at St. Louis.

Early flight for Hamilton

Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton left the game after the sixth inning to catch a flight back to Texas, where his wife is expecting a child.
