11-wk-old survives horror car smash; Mum and children escape 51st crash in six years at blackspot.

A MOTHER and three children - including an 11-week-old baby - were rushed to hospital after their car spun off a country road and into a field where it turned onto its side.

They escaped with minor injuries. The farmer who owns the field, in Nercwys near Mold, revealed yesterday it had been the 51st accident at the same bend in six years.

"Fortunately no one was seriously injured. I'm getting used to getting in contractors, it's the third fence this year," said Thomas Roberts of Hendre Isa Farm on Nercwys Road.

Most of the accidents, he said, were damage only and there had been no serious injuries.

The accident happened about 8.45am yesterday morning when the black Citroen car, driven by a 42-year-old woman, came off Nercwys Road.

She was coming down the hill past the entrance to Nercwys village and had passed Hendre Isa Farm when the accident happened.

Two police cars, two ambulances and a fire appliance attended the scene.

The fire service say no one was trapped and they put the vehicle on its wheels and made it safe.

Paramedics took the woman, a 12-year-old girl, a nine-year-old boy and the baby to Wrexham Maelor Hospital for a check-up. It is understood they came from Maeshafn village near Mold.

Mr Roberts said the road had traditional tar and chippings up to the bend but at the bend had a finer, harder and smoother surface dressing.

"Right on the bend it's a very hard wearing surface and they seem to lose control, especially when the surface is wet, it seems to get a film on it.

"I have tried to bring it to the attention of the county council and I've walked the road with the district surveyor.

"The problem is the county will ask the police for a report and only three or four accidents have been recorded because the others are no injury incidents."

A spokesman for Flintshire County Council said: "Following the accident we will be inspecting the road surface as is our normal practice."
