11-10 Booshman looks mightier than Mehta; SNOOKER.

Byline: Adrian Humphries

IT'S not surprising that some of the up-and-coming players are getting more opportunity to shine under snooker supremo Barry Hearn's watch and few players have shown more promise than Robbie Williams.

The Booshman, as the 26-yearold from Wallasey is known, showed his star quality when reaching the last four of the Ruhr Open last month and he could have too much for Aditya Mehta in the WilliamHill.com UK Championship first round today.

Mehta did well to reach the final of the Indian Open in his homeland last month, but a lot went his way in New Delhi and he may be made to toil by Williams, who has all the shots.

Scott Donaldson started the campaign in superb fettle when making the last four of the first Asian Tour event in Yixing in June. His form has let up a little since, but the 19-year-old from Perthshire could be good enough to surprise Matt Selt.

Romford-based Selt can play a bit but he seldom hits the headlines and he may struggle to contain his opponent today.

Luca Brecel, UK quarter-finalist last year, can be considered at 4-5 against Mike Dunn, who tweeted on Wednesday that he was suffering from a cold and had fractured a rib play-fighting with his son, while Ian Burns showed better form when a quarter-finalist in Gloucester earlier this month and could have too much, also at 4-5, for veteran James Wattana.

Ali Carter looked in good spirits in the Champion of Champions last week and the Essex potter made light work of Thai Ratchayothin Yotharuck yesterday in a 6-1 mauling. The Captain, 40-1 before the tournament started, was backable at 33-1 for the title after the victory.

Recommendations R Williams 4pts 11-10 Boylesports, Hills S Donaldson 2pts 10-11 Hills, Paddy Power
