10M HORSE BURGERS ARE DUMPED; Bid to salvage beef industry's reputation; Factories may have been 'cutting corners'.

MORE than 10 million burgers were taken off the shelves yesterday as desperate meat firms tried to salvage our beef industry's tattered reputation.

The hunt is on to find the source of the horse meat contamination that could cost us billions. And last night the Irish Cattle And Sheep Farmers Association accused meat companies of "cutting corners" to save cash.

President Gabriel Gilmartin blasted: "It would be totally outrageous if meat factories have tried to cut corners rather than using 100% Irish beef in their products."
