10,000 BUSINESS CUSTOMERS TO SWITCH 800 SERVICE TO AT&T

 BASKING RIDGE, N.J., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) today said more than 10,000 business customers have already agreed to switch their 800 service worth more than $140 million to AT&T.
 In addition, a sales campaign has netted more than 34,000 sales from existing customers in the last seven weeks alone. Combined, the sales have a total value of more than $2 billion over the terms of the contracts.
 Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines and Marriott Corporation are among 86 large customers AT&T said have already said they will keep their AT&T long-distance service through the 90-day "fresh look" period. "Fresh look" was mandated by the Federal Communications Commission and allows AT&T's largest customers with integrated service agreements that include 800 numbers to terminate their contracts or continue them.
 The Delta agreement is valued at $215 million, while the specific terms of Marriott's multimillion-dollar agreement were not disclosed. Under the contract, Marriott's toll-free number, 800-MARRIOTT, will become an AT&T number.
 "We are delighted so many customers have already committed to AT&T," said Joseph P. Nacchio, president of AT&T's Business Communications Services unit. "Once again, customers are overwhelmingly choosing AT&T because they know we deliver superior network reliability, service, innovation and value."
 Beginning May 1, the FCC has also mandated 800 number portability, which allows customers, for the first time, to take their 800 numbers with them if they change carriers.
