...While Diaper Production Growth Remains Strong

Diaper production in Japan is still maintaining its high annual growth rate of more than 10%. Total production in 1990 was 271,399 tons - a growth rate of 11.9% from the previous year. The breakdown by product is 231,516 tons of baby diapers (up 11.1%) and 39,883 tons of adult diapers (up 16.5%). That translates into 5.2 billion baby diaper units and 0.6 billion adult diaper units. Market penetration is estimated at 77% for baby diapers and 17% for adult diapers.
