Auto Business News - 07 February 2012
Volvo AB (NASDAQ: VOLV) (STO: VOLVA) (STO: VOLVB), a Sweden-based automaker, has received orders for 25 hybrid buses from Gothenburg Sparvagar, which operates public transport services on behalf of Vasttrafik.
The model is equipped with a small diesel engine and an electric motor. It is to start operating later this year.
Leif Blomqvist, chairman of the board of Vasttrafik, the agency responsible for public transport services in Gothenburg, said, 'The hybrid buses are an important element of our programme of converting to fossil-free bus traffic while reducing fuel consumption. Their combination of low emissions, lower noise level, high capacity and Gothenburg Sparvagar low energy utilisation is very attractive.'
