14 March 2011 - Swedish polymer technology solutions provider Trelleborg AB (STO: TREL B) said today it would invest some SEK45m in specialised production of printing blankets in Brazil in 2011 and 2012.
The investment will be made in a plant in Santana de Parnaiba, close to Sao Paulo, the acquisition of which was announced earlier this morning. The plant will be acquired from US-based Veyance Technologies Inc for some SEK40m. The facility will also be used to manufacture oil hoses for surface and deep-sea applications.
Production is expected to start gradually by the first half of 2012.
"The graphics industry is a growing and highly attractive market, and an increased presence in South and Latin America is central to our growth strategy," Lennart Johansson, head of Trelleborg's Engineered Systems unit, said.
Printing blankets are used by the graphics industry for offset printing in many applications, such as newspapers, books, brochures and packaging material. Trelleborg, which manufactures printing blankets under the brand names Vulcan and Rollin, is one of the three largest players in this segment in Latin America, the company said.
