-Tourists encouraged to book their cherry blossom tours of Washington, DC.

As spring nears in US capital all eyes are on the city's Japanese cherry trees, which burst into bloom sometime during March and April. Los Angeles-based tour operator Tours4Fun is encouraging its customers to book their cherry blossom sightseeing soon.

The company said it has put together several Washington DC one-day tours or three day weekend getaways steeped in historical significance.

Starting at USD 30, The tours promise the opportunity to the city's landmarks while learning their historical significance from a knowledgeable guide.

Washington DC is home to the National Cherry Blossom Festival, with peak blossom season coming sometime during March and April.

Customers can book a DC cherry blossom tour or a cherry blossom cruise to see the blooms in a river setting.

The mayor of Tokyo, Japan gifted the city the first 12 varieties of Japanese Cherry trees in 1912. They have been added to over the years, with the city now boasting more than 3,000 of the trees, from more than a dozen genetic lines.

Around 400 trees have been propagated using grafts from the original 1912.
