Global Banking News - 17 May 2011

Standard Bank (JNB: SBK) has established a partnership with Oriel Securities, an independent corporate and institutional stock-broking firm, according to a report by the Banking Times.

The move was aimed at assisting mining, oil and gas companies with finance and transactions in the UK. Oriel Securities already has alliances with Scotiabank (NYSE: BNS) (TSX: BNS) in Canada and HSBC (LSE: HSBA) (NYSE: HBC) (HKG: 0005) in the UK.

'The combined equity platforms and investment banking capabilities will extend the range of services that the two organisations can provide to their clients - both geographically and from a product perspective,' said Ian Carton, Standard's global head of cash equity.

'We are delighted to be partnering with Standard Bank, the combination of their deep client relationships across the African continent and other selected markets and our first rate London market and resources expertise will make this a strong and meaningful partnership,' said Simon Bragg, Oriel chief executive.
