Northshore Mining Co, a company that engages in the mining and processing of taconite, a low-grade iron ore, has agreed to pay a USD26,087 civil penalty to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

The company is paying the fine for alleged water quality permit violations at its Peter Mitchell taconite mine, near Babbitt.

According to Pollution Control Agency officials, the firm also should adhere to a schedule to resolve remaining violations at the mine.
