Travel Business Review - 05 August 2011

Mahekal Beach Resort, a Mexico-based resort in Playa Del Carmen, has announced an offer for its guests at the resort.

Resort guests will be able to view and participate in the hatching of eggs for the Loggerhead sea turtles during the summer season. Loggerhead turtles nest at the Coast of Quintana Roo from May to October, during which females lay around 120 eggs per nest. The resort and local authorities jointly participate in a protection programme to protect these eggs from natural predators.

Emilio Palazuelos, the general manager at the resort, said, 'The eggs are expected to hatch between the fourth week of August and the first week of September. Travellers, interested in witnessing and participating in this once in a lifetime experience, are encouraged plan a trip to the resort during that time. There will be much celebration surrounding this occasion and we will be inviting our guests to name and personally release each baby sea turtle into the Caribbean Sea.'
