Global Banking News - 01 March 2011

HSBC Holdings (LSE: HSBA) has said that a return on equity (ROE) of 20 per cent is achievable in Asia.

The bank said that its Asian operations would be able to sustain ROE levels that are five percentage points above its global target. This is because growth in the region is fast improving compared to other areas in the world.

The bank had posted a 21.1 per cent return for the region in 2010, more than double the ratio for the bank as a whole.
