UK's HSBC Holdings Plc (LSE: HSBA) (NYSE: HBC) (HKG: 0005) has said that it has named Sean O'Sullivan as group managing director and group chief operating officer, effective from August 1.

O'Sullivan will also join the group management board, and report to Stuart Gulliver, group chief executive.

O'Sullivan has been serving as group chief technology and services officer since January 11, and will continue to lead HSBC Technology and Services. He joined HSBC in 1980, and has served for 22 years in Toronto and Vancouver. He served as an executive vice president at HSBC USA Inc in New York City, before moving to HSBC Bank Canada as COO and, in 2007, to London as CTSO for the bank in the UK.
