Travel Business Review - 27 May 2011

Carlson, a US-based hospitality and travel company, has announced the commencement of construction of the 501-room, Radisson Blu Hotel in Minneapolis, US.

The USD130m Radisson Blu hotel will be developed with Mortenson Development, Inc, in their Twin Cities hometown. The 501-room hotel will be a part of the 'Mall of America's Phase II' expansion, and is expected to open in 2013.

Thorsten Kirschke, the company global chief operating officer, said, 'This is a major milestone in achieving our Ambition 2015 growth strategy, which includes opening landmark Radisson Blu hotels in key gateway cities and destinations in the United States. While we have several other Radisson Blu projects currently being evaluated, this property represents our second Radisson Blu development signed for the U.S. The Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, Chicago, the first Radisson Blu signed in the country, will mark the debut of the upper upscale, contemporary Radisson Blu tier when it opens in November 2011.'
