Global Banking News - 15 April 2011

Fitch Ratings has affirmed bank ratings for Australia.

The ratings agency has affirmed its double A ratings for the big four banks in Australia. While the outlooks for Commonwealth Bank of Australia Ltd (ASX: CBA), National Australia Bank Ltd (ASX: NAB) and Westpac Banking Corporation Ltd (NYSE: WBK) remained at 'Stable,' it would remain at 'Positive' for ANZ Banking Group Ltd (NYSE: ANZ).

In a statement, the agency said, 'The ratings reflect the major Australian banks' dominant market position in their home markets, strong profitability, low impaired asset levels and solid and improving liquidity and capital positions.'
