Global Banking News - 29 November 2012

The appointment of Canadian Mark Carney as the governor of the Bank of England has been welcomed across the board in Britain, notwithstanding the fact that a foreigner will be heading the bank for the first time in its over 300 year history.

Carney is respected for his vast experience and is known as a highly regarded economist. He is the man held responsible for steering Canada away from the global economic crisis.

As governor of the Central Bank of Canada, he was the first to cut interest rates and maintain them at unprecedented low levels for a definite time. This move was later adopted by the US.
