WARNER BROS. STUDIO STORES IS HONORED WITH 'RETAILER OF THE YEAR'
BURBANK, Calif., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- In its seventh annual awards ceremony in New York, the Licensing Industry Merchandisers Association (LIMA) bestowed "Retailer of the Year" honors to the newly launched Warner Bros. Studio Stores.
The LIMA award, considered to be the most prestigious in the licensing industry, was presented on the final night of Licensing '92 which concluded Wednesday at the New York Hilton.
"We are honored to have been awarded by LIMA," said Peter Starrett, senior vice president, director of retail, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "It is a compliment in the highest form when you are recognized by your peers."
Four Warner Bros. Studio Stores debuted in the fall of 1991 in locations around the country. The stores bucked the national retail trend, exceeding company projections and set the stage for expansion plans for 15 additional stores for 1992.
The fifth Warner Bros. Studio Store (and first store for 1992) made its splashy opening in May at the lavish Caesars Forum in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas store is the largest to date, occupying 8,200 square feet. Designed by Ken Nisch of Jon Greenberg and Associates, the Las Vegas Studio Store parodies Caesars theme in classic Roman Architecture and style.
The Warner Bros. Studio Stores are designed to resemble a studio back lot, where films and television shows are created, filmed and edited. Various "stages" feature oversized sets, each indicating the products sold in that area. Examples include the Looney Tunes area, "Batman Returns" to coincide with the film's release, Classic Hollywood and DC Comics. Each store is designed to reflect the glamour and excitement of Warner Bros., whose images and properties are among the most recognizable in the world, from Batman to Bugs Bunny to classic motion pictures.
