BARRY DILLER AND JEFFREY KATZENBERG ELECTED TO
AIDS PROJECT LOS ANGELES' BOARD OF DIRECTORS
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- On Aug. 25, Barry Diller, former chairman and chief executive officer at Fox Inc., and Jeffrey Katzenberg, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, were unanimously elected to the AIDS Project Los Angeles board of directors.
"We are very pleased that persons of the stature, accomplishments and dedication to public service of Barry Diller and Jeffrey Katzenberg have agreed to become part of the future of APLA. The board believes that these two men are committed to improving the lives of people living with AIDS and to helping APLA achieve its mission," said David Wexler, chairman of the board. "Mr. Diller and Mr. Katzenberg will be dedicating time and energy to APLA and the clients whom we serve."
Diller has been a member of APLA's board of governors since 1990 and was instrumental in the formation of Hollywood Supports, an organization dedicated to fighting fear and discrimination of people living with AIDS in the entertainment industry. He has also given in many ways, since early on in the epidemic, to AIDS-service organizations, as well as to AIDS Research.
"APLA is a great organization and I'm sure going to try and make as much of a contribution as it deserves which means no matter how much I try, and I intend to, I'll never get it," said Diller on his election to the board.
Katzenberg has been supportive of various AIDS organizations working behind the scenes donating energy and resources over the years and is determined to become even more involved in the fight against AIDS.
Commenting on his appointment, Katzenberg said, "I value the work that APLA does in our community and am pleased to be associated with them. For me, this will not be a silent relationship. The toll of creative lives taken by the AIDS crisis is devastating, and I am prepared and determined to be active in this organization and to do whatever I can to support APLA and its work."
The board of directors also elected Stephan Korsia, Treatment Education Program Manager for the agency, as the staff representative to the board. Korsia is a prominent AIDS activist working with various organizations in the community including ACT UP/LA and the Advisory Committee of The UCLA AIDS Institute.
The board of directors at APLA is the governing body of the agency, helping APLA achieve its mission to improve the quality of life for people living with AIDS and HIV through policy formation, fundraising and technical assistance on a variety of levels. To serve on the board of directors, members must dedicate a tremendous amount of time, energy and resources and act as APLA ambassadors to the public.
