(POL) TO DISCONTINUE DEMOCRATIC MOVE WOULD BE BETRAYAL TO CHILDREN OF THIS COUNTRY, ERDOGAN SAYS.

ANKARA, Jun 22, 2010 (TUR) -- Chairman of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday "to discontinue the democratic move of the government would be a betrayal to the children of this country, Turkey".

Speaking at a group meeting of his political party in the Turkish Parliament, Erdogan said that throwing out threats into air and acts of heroism during the fight against terror will only lead to the break up of the resistance of the society.

To be in political opposition does not mean speaking empty words, Erdogan said.

Those making a call to end the democratic move in Turkey are acting with negligence, Erdogan said.

Unfortunately, all Turkish governments in the past took a step back or postponed steps against the terrorist organization. We will not take a step back, Erdogan underlined.
