(GEN) TURKISH SECURITY FORCES SEIZE 27 KG HEROIN.

VAN, May 30, 2010 (TUR) -- Security forces seized 27 kg of heroin in an operation in eastern Turkey, officials said on Saturday.

Gendarmerie received a tip that a drug cartel would transport heroin from the eastern province of Van to western countries. Gendarmerie followed a car and stopped it near Gurpinar town. They found the heroin stashed in 51 packs in hidden compartments of the car.

Driver of the car was arrested, officials said.

In another operation, gendarmerie teams in the southern province of Hatay seized 19.5 kg of hashish during a drug bust at a house. The owner of the house was arrested too.
