(GEN) KAZAKH PRESIDENT'S STATUE ERECTED AT A PARK IN TURKISH CAPITAL.

ANKARA, Jun 25, 2010 (TUR) -- Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's statue erected at Ankara's Genclik Parki was inaugurated with a ceremony attended by numerous Turkish and Kazakh officials on Thursday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Turkish Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin said Turkey and Kazakhstan were connected to each other with deep ties of brotherhood, adding Nazarbayev's statue had been built as a symbol of such relationship.

Noting that Turkey had not broken its ties with the Asia as it carried on with its EU membership process, Sahin said Turkey continued to cooperate with Turkic republics, particulary with Kazakhstan.

"This statue of Nazarbayev reminds us of the Kazakh nation and our friendship with Kazakhstan," Sahin said.

Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek said in his part that Nazarbayev was a great leader who gave Kazakhstan its independence and made it a prestigious country.

After speeches by officials, the inauguration ceremony was held with the participation of Parliament Speaker Sahin, his Kazakh counterpart Oral Muhamedcanov, Turkish Culture Minister Ertugrul Gunay, Turkish State Minister Faruk Nafiz Ozak, Kazakh Culture Minister Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed, Justice and Development (AK) Party officials, Ankara Mayor Gokcek and some deputies.
