(ECO) GERMAN GROUP HAS MORE THAN 1 BLN EURO TURNOVER IN TURKEY.

DUSSELDORF, Mar 25, 2009 (TUR) -- A German retailing company had more than 1 billion Euro turnover in Turkey, the CEO of the company said on Wednesday.

Germany's Metro Group had recorded a turnover of 1.3 billion Euros in 2008, CEO Dr. Eckhard Cordes told a press conference in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Cordes said that (hypermarket) Real's turnover in Turkey in 2008 was 288 million Euros, that of Media Markt (electronics retailer) was 123 million Euros, and that of Metro Cash & Carry (self-service wholesale store) was 896 million Euros.

"The group was planning to invest some 100 million Euros in Turkey in 2008, and achieved its goal by opening five Media Markt and two Metro Cash & Carry markets," Cordes also said.

Cordes said the group aimed to open three Real and eight Media Markt markets in Turkey, and a shopping mall in Istanbul in 2009.

One of the most important international retailing companies in the world, Metro group has some 300,000 employees from 150 nations in over 2,200 outlets in 32 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.

The group has been operating in Turkey since 1990, and has 13 Metro Cash & Carry stores, 11 Real hypermarkets, and 8 Media Markt stores throughout the country.
