(ECO) 660 THOUSAND UNEMPLOYED IN ISTANBUL, STATISTICS AUTHORITY.

ANKARA, Dec 22, 2009 (TUR) -- The unemployment rate in Istanbul in 2008 has been estimated as 11.2 percent according to figures provided by the Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK).

Accordingly, there were 660 thousand unemployed people in Istanbul in 2008.

The unemployment rate in capital province of Ankara and Izmir was 11.8 percent in 2008.

South-eastern province of Sirnak was the province with highest percentage of unemployed individuals in 2008.

North-eastern province of Rize was the province with highest amount of employment while south-eastern province of Siirt was the province with lowest amount of employment in 2008.
